I'm sure many laptop users around the world would've been anxiously waiting to see Intel release some form of mobile CPU in the quad-core version for laptop use. Finally, it looks like our prayers have all been answered. Intel will release their first ever quad-core CPU for laptops later this year, the third quarter to be precise.
Dubbed the Core 2 Extreme QX9300, it will surely not come cheap. Well, not anytime soon surely because the launch price is reported to be just over $1,000 per unit.
Obviously, the QX9300 will find its way into the high-end and performance laptops. But, Intel is not very optimistic about quad-core going mainstream for laptops until late 2009. Sorry for breaking this news to you. The release of quad-core processors for laptops is a step in the right direction and let's just celebrate that for now.
