ASRocks latest achievement is a new motherboard that boots up Vista in 4 seconds from complete shutdown.
The fast boot time is achieved via a BIOS update (for select motherboards) that will boot either XP or Vista systems faster than any average machine. This fast boot is accomplished by manipulating the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface and causing the system to, in a way, reboot and then fall it into suspended mode, so all you need to do is press power and log in.
As good as it sounds, there is a downside. Unfortunately, this BIOS update can only work on systems that are single user, and that have no password, which isn't even an option for the vast majority of users.
Wanna try an experiment? Change your settings to suspend mode when lid is closed, close your lid when done with the computer, and voila! Fast boot, and you even get to keep your password.
