The Microsoft Surface is essentially a desktop that takes the place of your living room table.

Placing any WiFi capable device on the surface of the - Surface - allows you to access that device.

For instance, placing a WiFi capable camera on the Surface allows you to view and manipulate the images.  From there you can use multi-touch gestures to zoom, shirnk, and pull the images around the Surface.  Thanks to technology that can track fifty separate points at the same time (think 25 friends each with both hands on the table) the possibilities are endless.
