Ultra-Cord retractable USB 1.1 cable reviewBy:Jetion Date:2005-8-22 18:14:33 |
First Impressions:
Casemodgod.com would like to thank one of our Ultra Products giveaway winners RObErT_RaTh for taking the time to review the awesome prize he won!
The retractable cable itself is really quite a smart little contraption. The cable simply winds and unwinds about a wheel inside the centre and can lock into place at different intervals up to 59Ħħ to allow you to keep the amount of cable being used to a minimum, thus reducing the clutter of unnecessary cables.
The retractable USB cable comes packaged with a small FireWire adapter so that you can hook up things such as portable hard drives, which only have a FireWire connection, to your USB port via any normal USB cable. This can be very handy for some people and my mate has a portable hard drive so he could definitely use this handy attachment.

A Closer Look:
The cable is made up of what looks to be two sets of thin insulated wires. This very thin, very flexible cable is what makes this item unique. It is the only reason the cable can be retracted so easily. Most if not all other USB cables I have seen are round, much larger, and thicker than this. They are also fairly springy and do not stay wound up. You can see here the side of the housing and how the cable is wound up in the middle.
